Meet The Dentist: Stacey Aust

What got you into dentistry?

Call me crazy but for as long as I can remember I have always seeked enjoyment from a visit to the dentist. From the clinical smell to the sounds of the drills, I just find it super relaxing.

What do you love most about your job?

Definitely seeing the instant confident boost our clients receive. Sadly, 55% of Australian adults have an insecurity about their teeth, so being able to help increase their self-esteem is extremely rewarding.

What’s something you like to ponder when brushing your teeth?

Honestly, nothing too exciting. I do a mental check list to ensure my busy day ahead will run as smoothly as possible.

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about taking care of their mouth?

Your oral health is important. Regular brushing and flossing can help you have a health smile and healthy gums. However, In order for your oral hygiene habits to be effective you need to take good care of your toothbrush.  Replace your tooth brush every three months, or sooner if your tooth brush is showing signs of bristle damage, is soiled or if you have been unwell.

Why does the oral microbiome matter?

Did you know that your oral health is a window to our overall health? Surely, you have heard the saying ‘you are what you eat’? With this in mind we need to understand that the bacteria in and around our mouth directly impacts the bacteria passing through out our bodies. In order to live our healthiest life, we need to ensure we have a good balance of oral microbiomes. Keeping on top of your oral hygiene, reducing sugary and salty foods and ensuring you have plenty of nutrition in your diet will help get your oral microbiome well balanced.

How do you think dentistry is evolving?

We are seeing cosmetic dentistry becoming increasing popular. People are becoming more interested and invested in cosmetic dentistry and other cosmetic procedures. We believe through the power of social media, clients are seeing dramatic, life changing results from cosmetic dentistry and as a result lining up to improve their smile and overall appearance.

Describe the clinic of your dreams…

My current clinic is the clinic of my dreams. I feel so grateful to be working where I do, with the team we have and the patients we help.
